- 19 Dog Breeds That Shouldn’t Live With Cats
3. Irish Wolfhound
Despite their formidable size (they are one of the tallest breeds in the world), Irish wolfhounds are amazing family companions who want to be friends and play with everyone they meet. They are, however, sighthounds who are used for hunting, among other things. That basically means that they perceive cats and other small animals as prey that should be killed.
Due to their strength and size, chances are you won’t be able to stop them from chasing after the ‘prey’, which means your cat could be in constant danger and fear. Of course, some Irish wolfhounds enjoy the company of cats, but they can consider felines part of their pack only if they were raised together – and you can’t be certain that they won’t attack someday even if they were introduced at an early age.
The nature of their relationship will mostly depend on the personality and temperament of the Irish wolfhound – every individual dog is different, and there’s no way of knowing how they would react to sharing a household with a cat.
