A seven-year-old Belgian Shepherd named Diesel lost her life yesterday to ISIS militants holed up in a Parisian flat. Police sent her into the building to sniff out traps, and that’s when she ran into a woman storming out of one of the rooms, firing her AK-47 at police and detonating her suicide vest shortly after, killing the dog.
A police handler said that it was like losing a colleague. Tributes for Diesel poured in from all sides of the world and she was decorated with service medals, honoring her distinguished career in the police force.
Social media was flooded with a wave of mourning under the hashtag #JeSuisChien, in reference to the worldwide cry of solidarity ‘Je Suis Charlie’ after the terror attacks on Charlie Hebdo magazine in January. Her colleagues say that Diesel was a respected member of the force and that she will be missed. Rest in peace, Diesel.
