Uggie the Jack Russel had to be put down after losing a long battle with prostate tumor. You might remember him as the dog who rose to fame after starring in the 2011 Oscar-winning film The Artist.
He played Jean Dujardin’s pet dog in that movie and appeared with Robert Pattinson in 2011’s Water for Elephants. Uggie’s owner Omar Von Muller posted on Facebook:
We regret to inform to all our friends, family and Uggie’s fans that our beloved boy has passed away.
This remarkable terrier ‘retired’ in 2012 but continued to appear on TV occasionally. His most recent appearance was the 2013 movie Holiday Road Trip – he played a dog called Scoots.
He won the Palm Dog award for best canine actor at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, and was the first dog to leave a paw print on the cement outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Even the organizers of the Palm Dog prize gave their honors to the pooch loved by all, calling him “a special little Jack Russell who gave pleasure to millions.”
