While Pedro Dinis was walking his dog in Carrieres-sue-Seine, he noticed a female French mastiff cruelly buried alive, while her lead was tied to a heavy sack of gravel to prevent her from escaping. Mr Dinis immediately called emergency services and began unburrowing the dog. He took a picture of the bizarre situation and posted it to Facebook, which sparked outrage. She was given water and after a while pulled out to safety.

The owner of the dog was found shortly after. He claims the dog has ran away and denies burying it alive, which doesn’t seem that believable since she’s over 10 years old and has arthritis. And how the heck would she be able to burrow herself like that and tie her own lead to a sack of gravel?

The owner is now facing some serious charges for animal cruelty. He could be sent to prison for up to two years and be forced to pay a fine of some £21,000.
