Dachshunds have steadily increased in popularity as a small-breed companion in America over the last several decades. These stout-hearted little “wiener dogs” are brave and fun loving, but there are also many myths about their temperament and disposition that people still accept as fact, even though none have any basis in truth.

1. Myth:

Neutering a male dachshund will make him a poor watchdog. In truth, all dachshunds are alert and protective of their family, and neutering a male will not alter this breed trait.
