Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp has been warned that he has until Saturday, May 16 to take his two dogs out of Australia or they will be euthanized.
Depp and wife Amber Heard have been accussed of illegally bringing their Yorkshire Terriers Boo and Pistol to Australia, not declaring them to customs officials and violating the country’s strict quarantine laws.
Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce said the law applied to everyone and Depp would not be an exception just because he is a movie star. Here’s a part of his statement:
“Mr. Depp has to either take his dogs back to California or we’re going to have to euthanize them. He’s now got about 50 hours left to remove the dogs. He can put them on the same charter jet he flew out on and fly back out of our nation.”
Despite the fact that an online petition to save Johnny’s dogs received thousands of signatures on Thursday, Mr. Joyce was relentless. To quote him:
“If we start letting movie stars even though they’ve been the ‘sexiest man alive’ twice to come into our nation, then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody? It’s time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States.”
