Many believe that the more social the animal, the smarter he is based on the fact that being social allows him to learn more, thereby increasing their intelligence level. Compare a Border Collie to a cat, and there’s no question who is more social. The former thrive on being social, while many cats choose to go the solitary route. A 2010 Oxford University study suggests that a cat’s independence and lack of social interaction makes him less intelligent, while a 2004 University of Portsmouth study states that a dog’s ability to understand human language, use reason, etc, puts him higher up on the intelligence scale.
