4. Recall

Having a dog that comes when he is called is as important as the “heel” command. After all, if he does not return to you to heel, that command won’t even work. Start in the home or yard where there are no distractions. When you say “come” he should immediately come to you, and be rewarded for doing so. This should be practiced throughout the day regardless where you are. Once he knows what is expected of him when he hears the command, try using a long leash at a park. He should return to you every time. Never let him off leash until you are confident he will return regardless of distractions. Always keep him on leash in areas that require it.
