22 Hypoallergenic Dog Breeds
8. West Highland White Terrier
The West Highland White Terrier is a breed originally created from Cairn and Scottish terriers with the purpose of creating a dog that would not be mistaken for a fox. It is, therefore, a hunting dog, and his character and instincts show it.
As for our topic, it’s worth noting that Westies, as they are called, have a double coat but shed a little, or don’t shed at all. They are also hypoallergenic, or, to be more precise, they do shed some allergens, but in negligible amounts.
As for the character, West Highland White Terriers are cheerful and energetic and they are, as we mentioned, great hunters. Because of this, they can sometimes mistake screaming and giggling of a toddler for a prey and act up. The same goes for children who pull on them or play roughly with them. Otherwise, the Westies are great dogs that are trained easily and that make great companions.
