2. SWANSEA JACK
Swansea Jack is probably the most famous dog in Great Britain, or at least he was during his lifetime in 1930’s. Jack was a black retriever who lived with his owner in Swansea, Wales. His home was near the dangerous River Tawe, which claimed many lives due to its turbulent and strong currents.
One day, Jack was walking by the river when he saw a boy drowning. He instantly jumped in and pulled the boy out like a puppy – by the scruff of his neck, saving his life. A few weeks later, Jack saved another person, and this time people saw him doing it, praising his selflessness and courage. But Jack wasn’t done – he saved another person, and another, and another. Throughout his life, this brave dog saved 27 people from drowning in River Tawe. For this, he received several honors and medals and will forever be cherished in the hearts of Swanseans.
