2. Smaller dogs can get heartworms

Traditionally, smaller breeds suffer fewer infections because they spend less time outdoors. But mosquitoes can come indoors. Also, more people are taking their small dogs with them camping and on vacation to tropical climes, where they are exposed to more infected mosquitoes.
