Dogs have an amazing ability to capture the hearts of just about anyone. Even the most famous and wealthiest among us are susceptible to their charms. That’s why we occasionally hear about mind-bogglingly generous inheritances left to four legged heirs.

1. Trouble, the Richest Maltese in the World

Trouble was a pampered Maltese owned by New York Hotel heiress Leona Helmsley. Helmsley adopted Trouble as a way of finding comfort after the death of her husband. She chose to pass on most of her $12 million estate to her fluffy white pet.

In the end, a judge chose to limit Trouble’s inheritance to $2 million. The dog still lived a life of pure luxury up until her death at the age of 12. Trouble wound up dealing with 20 to 30 death and kidnapping threats and had a full time security guard.
