22 Hypoallergenic Dog Breeds
6. Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier
The first dogs to be bred specifically in Ireland, initially for the purpose of herding and guarding cattle and sheep and hunting rats, the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers are an energetic, strong, fast and loyal breed. They are highly energetic and somewhat confrontational, but extremely courageous. Because they are far less aggressive than other terriers, Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers are popular among families, where they make a great, devoted and protective companion to kids, as long as they are respectful towards them.
Another thing that makes Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers is the fact they don’t shed and don’t cause allergies. It is unclear why this is so, but this feature has been associated with the breed for centuries. These dogs make great companions and even excellent therapy animals.
Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers do require careful grooming, at least once a week. Because they are full of energy and very playful, they need their exercise, otherwise they become nervous.
